These are the first words we will write on Conquer Therapy’s blog. When Danielle and I began talking about plans for Conquer Therapy Services, we never intended on having a blog. Likewise, we did not have plans for recognition or money. Instead, every time we talked (which happens often!), we found ourselves sharing our mutual passion for service. We have had many experiences throughout our years as occupational therapists that have made us realize that our passion for service mixed with our knowledge can be of value to those around us.
Before Conquer Therapy
I have worked many years in schools, with kids of all ages. Initially, I felt I was meeting kids’ needs by bringing them to the therapy room and addressing their goals. I realized quickly that their progress was oftentimes not generalizing across settings. I began to research how to achieve success and meet goals in all environments. The research showed that kids need to be treated in the setting that they are typically in. Kids need to perform the tasks in real time.
So, I developed close relationships with teachers, paras, cafeteria staff, recess staff. They were so supportive, followed through with recommendations, and appreciated the guidance I was giving them. And, because of this collaboration and implementation in the natural setting, kids began making incredible progress towards their goals and overall success! This was so fulfilling for me, and I was so proud of the kids and school staff.
However, I still struggled with the limited time I had with the families of my students. It was heartbreaking to sit in meetings with families and tell them about my occupational therapy services with their kid at school, but not have enough time to support them with their child in their home or in the community.
Conquer Therapy’s Mission
Starting this company and providing resources such as this blog is an outlet for serving people in the way that fits their needs. The blog and information shared on emails and social media is designed to help…
- Individuals at all stages of life as they navigate life’s challenges..
- Parents, caregivers and families who want to do the best they can to help their loved ones.
- Teachers and educators who want to learn how to meet the unique needs of all students they encounter.
- Occupational, Speech and Physical Therapists who want to develop, share and collaborate experiences and knowledge.
We are thrilled to help those who we directly see but also provide more information to others through our blog, email list and social media. However, we ask that you be patient with us. Our mission is strong, but it will take us a bit to learn the technical processes. If we hit send too quickly or do not have the most perfect grammar or the best pictures, we will get better as we go! With that being said, we promise every piece of information we share will be intentional and honest. We are here to help. As occupational, speech, and physical therapists and as parents, we look forward to collaborating and sharing with you.
