Spinal Cord Therapy

Spinal cord injuries can make a profound impact on individuals’ lives- encountering hurdles related to mobility, coordination, and overall physical function. Early identification and intervention are crucial for a child’s optimal development. Our therapy programs are designed to comprehensively address the complexity of these conditions, promoting both physical and emotional well-being.  We take a  multidisciplinary approach aimed to promote optimal function and participation.

Physical Therapy (PT) focuses on lower limb strength, balance, and mobility training. Targeted exercises and gait training help improve ambulation and independence.

Occupational Therapy (OT) can help develop functional life skills and access desired tasks and environments.

Speech-Language Pathology (SLP): Spinal cord injuries, especially those affecting the cervical region, can impact swallowing and speech functions. SLP interventions may include exercises to improve oral motor control and functional communication.

Benefits of Therapy:

Therapy interventions, including targeted exercises and activities, aim to improve balance, coordination, and overall physical function. This not only contributes to better mobility but also enables children to engage more actively in their daily activities.

Occupational therapy plays a key role in equipping children with spinal cord conditions with adaptive strategies for daily living. These strategies may include techniques for independent self-care, enhancing their confidence and promoting a sense of autonomy.

Beyond the physical benefits, therapy emphasizes emotional well-being and social integration. By providing a supportive environment, children can build confidence in their abilities, fostering positive self-esteem and facilitating smoother social interactions.

We recognize the importance of involving families in the therapeutic process. Our family-centered approach ensures that parents and caregivers are active partners in their child’s progress. Through education and ongoing support, families become an integral part of the child’s journey towards improved functionality and overall well-being.
