Mommy and Me Support

We are thrilled to start offering Mommy and Me groups to the St. Louis and St. Charles community. This group starts in October, and will be for moms and infants age birth- learning to take a few steps. I wanted to give an overview of what this group will entail. A flyer will be provided later in the week.

Mommy and Me Motor Time

Why we are offering this Mommy and Me Group?

As a mom and OT, I often think about the lack of information shared with me after having a new baby. With my first son, I went to all the how-to classes about newborn, breastfeeding, and childbirth. I also read all the recommended books suggested by friends and our pediatrician. However, I don’t recall getting any education on how to care for myself after my delivery. I relied on my friends and family suggesting a few key items to bring along as well. And, I did endless googling to make my list. Thankfully, there is tons of information out there in the world wide web!

Over the years, I have wanted to give back knowledge I have gained professionally as well as personally. I strive to give to moms in a very vulnerable, yet exciting season of life. I have spent the better part of my career working with moms and children 0-3 years. But, I wanted to reach a larger group to provide proactive information. I want to support moms through the first year on topics that are only briefly touched on at well-baby visits. Over the years, I have received calls from friends, family, and clients with questions on development, feeding, and postnatal issues searching for information from a professional they trust vs a google search that is overwhelming especially to an exhausted new mom. I have always wanted to make time and start this group, and I am so excited that the time has come!

More about the Group

The group will be meeting 4 weeks in a row for an hour each session. We are going to discuss and work on ways to incorporate key pieces of motor development into play routines, discuss safe sleep recommendations, discuss frequently asked questions around infant feeding, and give support for new moms. My hope is this will be a place moms can meet new friends in the same season of life, get some questions answered, and get some playtime in with their baby.
