DMI Intensive Therapy
Dynamic Movement Intervention
Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) is an internationally recognized manual therapy technique designed to help children achieve their gross motor milestones. Unlike traditional methods, DMI leverages the brain’s neuroplasticity to facilitate rapid, long-lasting changes, enabling children to acquire new skills. DMI Intensive therapy is a common and effective method for this program.
How DMI Differs:
- Functional Tasks: DMI challenges children with manual exercises that progress in support, promoting muscle activation and postural control.
- Gravity Exposure: It guides children in aligning their bodies against gravity, engaging sensory systems, strength, and coordination.
- Neuroplastic Progress: Based on brain science research, DMI stimulates the brain to create new connections, leading to explosive gross motor progress.
- Long-Term Benefits: DMI fosters skeletal and joint maturity, promoting aligned weight bearing for optimal orthopedic health.
Who Can Benefit:
Any child with gross motor delays, including Down Syndrome, Cerebral palsy, and developmental delays, can benefit from DMI. Prematurely born children also benefit from the neuroplastic changes it stimulates.
Typical DMI Intensive Therapy Session:
Sessions begin with a comprehensive assessment, followed by an intensive model of therapy: twice daily for three weeks every three months, with shorter options available
